Yoga Mat Bag

I took up yoga several years ago. The one thing I didn't have was a yoga mat bag. I decided I should make one and designed this bag from one I saw on Pintrest using a pair of my dad's old denim jeans. It cost me very  little to make and most important I will  keep my dad's memory alive. For fun you can add embellishments using appliques, paint sequins, etc. tutorial here

I've been making artist trading cards for a ATC swap I joined. And I managed to finish way ahead of the June due date. These little jewels are so much fun to make. These are going to my partner.

These are the cards my partner sent to me.

Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy New Year

Here is the fabric postcard I made for the Kwanzaa exchange. The ear of corn is stenciled
on felt. The corn (muhndi) is placed on the mkeka (woven straw mat) to symbolize the celebration
of children, community, and family. Kwanzaa, the African American holiday celebrated from
Dec. 26 through Jan 1. is a Swahilli term that signifies "first fruits of the harvest".

I love everything about the holidays. When I was a child we started preparing for Christmas
shortly after Thanksgiving. We put the decorations up 2 weeks before Christmas and took the
tree down before 12am New Years eve. Over the holidays I will be quilting the Kwanzaa top
I made for a neighbor and upstarting several other holiday projects. It is never to early
to start Christmas projects. I miss dad so very much as this is our first Christmas
without him. He loved the holidays so much and always helped out with the Christmas dinner.
Hope you are enjoying your holiday with family and friends and may it be filled with
joy and happiness.

Jelly Roll Quilt

Originally posted by itrain at Jelly Roll Quilt
I got this from a friend on facebook. She finished this quilt at her quilt guild meeting. The technique comes from http://blog.heirloomcreations.net. It is so much fun. The video is also fun to watch. The website has detailed instructions for finishing the quilt. Here is my version with a few changes. I added a border and cut my strips 3 inches wide from yardage instead of 2.5 inches. It is white on white and makes a lovely quilt.

Homemade Vin d' Orange

I made a batch of Vin d' Orange wine for the holiday weekend. This is a step back in time
from my wine and brewski making days. A easy recipe and takes little prep
work but requires time to age. To the recipe I added one lime. I will be sipping Vin d' Orange and chowing down on Memphis barbecue this weekend.

The Prep work

The Product

The recipe

Vin d' Orange
750 ml bottle fruity rose wine
1/2 cup vodka
1/4 cup rum
1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
1 cup sugar
3 oranges, sliced
2 unwaxed lemmons, sliced

Place the wine, vodka and rum in a bowl, stir in the vanilla bean, sugar, and the orange and lemon slices. Let sit 6 weeks in an airtight glass container, then strain and bottle. Serve chilled. Makes about 1 quart.

Spoonflower fabric order

I finally ordered fabric from the online site spoonflower.com. This is a really cool site
where you can design your own fabric and get a % of the sales. I can't wait for my
fabric to arrive, the fabric orders are delayed. I ordered 2 yards for Xmas Kwanzaa quilt wallhanging. At 18 dollars a yard this has to be the last word in fabric. And believe me I have seen my share of fabrics working in a fabric store. They have some talented designers doing a ton of cool designs. Anyone ordered from this site?
